There are many places that are well suited for wind power. Austin, Texas is one such place. What separates Austin from the pack is how it, as well as much of Texas, has embraced the potential of wind power. This shouldn’t really be a huge surprise, Texas has a long history in the energy industry. The history just happens to be in different areas of energy than wind.
Most people make Texas synonymous with oil tycoons and ranchers, and for a long time these were staples of the state’s economy. Today they still are, but Texas is also leading the way in wind power. Austin Texas is just one city that is helping to make clean energy a reality.
Many think of California when they think of clean energy, because of the California Solar Initiative. As a state that sees little snowfall along the coasts, solar is indeed the way to go for alternative energy there. But in Texas, which does see snow during the winter, solar is a less viable alternative than wind power. Austin Texas is far more suitable for a wind turbine than a solar panel. The wind in Texas isn’t something that people around the country think of when they think of the state, but ask anyone there and they can tell you, it is indeed windy in Texas.
